Berlin mobility project “Your Summer Fleet” launched

0

How does it feel to banish your car to the garage for a month and instead be on the road exclusively with car, ride and bike sharing, eScooters and public transport? The “Your Summer Fleet” campaign in Berlin is investigating this question in a very practical way. Exchange your car for 5000 sharing vehicles – for one month – with the focus on “trying out”.

The initiator of the action is Neue Mobilität Berlin, a joint project of the city, science and industry. The whole project is a joint project of Bezirksamt Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, insel-projekt.berlin UG, Berliner Agentur für Elektromobilität (eMO), Zentrum Technik und Gesellschaft (TU Berlin) and BMW Group.

Experience multimodal mobility, that will be 50 participants for one month. The aim of these and other activities of Neue Mobilität Berlin is to improve the framework conditions for sustainable and needs-oriented mobility offers. Only residents of Mierendorff Island and Klausenerplatz-Kiez can register for the “Your Summer Fleet” campaign, which is scientifically accompanied and evaluated by the Centre for Technology and Society of the Technical University of Berlin. More information and the registration form for the “Summer Fleet” can be found at.

How does the Berlin summer fleet work?

Since yesterday, 50 residents of Mierendorff Island and Klausenerplatz-Kiez have had to do without their own car for the whole of June and can fall back on a comprehensive voucher package of a total of eleven mobility service providers active in the capital. In addition to the OEM subsidiaries car2go and DriveNow, these include the Bosch eRoller Sharing subsidiary Coup, its competitors Emmy, BVG, driveby, Stadtmobil, Kambio Berlin, Nextbike and Clevershuttle. They support the 50 participants with free minutes and free registration of their mobility services.

Stefan Seidler, car2go Location Manager Berlin: “Promotions like’Your summer fleet’ are a good opportunity for city dwellers to simply try out the numerous mobility offers in Berlin – the keyword is multimodal mobility. I am convinced that the participants will continue to use many of the offers as a very good supplement to their own car even after the campaign has been completed. Our flexible car sharing offer is already an important component of everyday mobility in Berlin and we look forward to attracting even more people to car2go through projects such as the summer fleet”.

We will continue to report on how this urban mobility concept is being adopted.

What's your reaction?

I am interested in solutions for the challenges we face in urban mobility. With 75% of our population forecast to live in urban centres by 2050, we need smart mobility and logistics innovations to survive. Our platform aims to communicate about these global innovations in smart cities around the globe.
