IVU Traffic Technologies and the British transport technology company UrbanThings have entered into a strategic partnership. As part of the agreement, IVU will distribute the Mobile Ticketing solution Ticketless™ from UrbanThings as part of the integrated IVU.suite. As part of the partnership, the two companies will continue to integrate their platforms.
Ticketless is an intelligent ticketing platform for public transport that enables transport companies to reduce their costs: Instead of hardware in the vehicles, the system uses the passengers’ smart devices to check the validity of tickets.
Passengers board without showing their smartphone
The new system allows access via “Be-in/Be-Out”, whereby passengers can board the vehicles without showing their smartphones. The Ticketless app communicates via Bluetooth to track trips and manage payments. The same technology enables transport companies to monitor vehicle occupancy in real time. Ticketless is already arousing great interest: The solution will go live in Bristol (UK) for the first time this month. Further advance orders were accepted.
IVU supplies its software for traffic planning and fleet management to well-known transport companies in Germany and throughout Europe, including DB Regio, Transdev, Trenitalia, PostBus and Connexxion. Ticketless is IVU’s first m-ticketing component, thereby expanding the existing range of transport solutions from the Berlin IT specialist for public transport. IVU sells Ticketless under the name IVU.ticket.app, where transport companies can adapt the design of the app to their individual needs.
UrbanThings CEO Carl Partridge: “I like to describe Ticketless as a kind of’Amazon Go’ for public transport! I firmly believe that the future of ticket sales in public transport means less dependence on expensive hardware. We are very pleased to partner with IVU to provide transport companies throughout Europe with this innovative type of mobile ticket sales”.
Matthias Rust, CTO of IVU Traffic Technologies: “Transport operators all over the world are looking for ticketing solutions that are intuitive and easy to use and at the same time cost-effective and quick to implement. We are pleased to be able to offer our more than 500 customers such a platform through our partnership with UrbanThings, which can also be fully integrated into their existing system environments”.
Ticketless is offered as part of the integrated IVU.suite. The technology has already been presented in live demonstrations at IT-TRANS and the IVU User Forum and will be available for testing at InnoTrans 2018 and other upcoming conferences.
