ZF Friedrichshafen takes e-mobility seriously

0

At the IAA for Commercial Vehicles in Hanover, the supplier ZF Friedrichshafen presented its strategy for the logistics industry. According to ZF, commercial vehicles overtake cars in the automation of driving and connectivity functions. For this reason, the Friedrichshafen-based company plans to invest more than 12 billion euros in the fields of e-mobility and autonomous driving over the next five years. A first step is the investment in 35% of the shares in the development service provider ASAP Holding.

Supplier ZF Friedrichshafen focuses on the clean last mile

The supplier ZF Friedrichshafen bundled its technologies at the IAA 2018 and supplies exciting solutions for the entire logistics chain through automation, networking and electrification. Ultimately, the Friedrichshafen-based company plans to revolutionise the last mile. Parcels are to be delivered cleanly, safely, and on time. A proprietary ZF Innovation Van demonstrated how intelligent networking, autonomous driving, and a purely electric drive can actively support tomorrow’s delivery services. A remote control via tablet or a follow-me function, for example, help the deliverer with efficient delivery.

ZF Friedrichshafen now also announces the acquisition of 35 percent of the shares of the development service provider ASAP Holding GmbH in Gaimersheim, Bavaria. ZF is thus pursuing its strategy of securing additional resources for autonomous driving and e-mobility in order to better meet the constantly growing customer demand in these areas.

Focus on autonomous driving and e-mobility

“As an established development partner, the ASAP Group has extensive know-how in the areas of autonomous driving, e-mobility, networking, and vehicle software,” says Torsten Gollewski, Managing Director of Zukunft Ventures GmbH and Head of Advanced Development for the ZF Group. “With this participation, we gain access to the human resources of an outstanding engineering service provider with extensive industry experience and special expertise in testing and validation. We look forward to working with its employees to develop forward-looking mobility solutions and bring them to series maturity.”

Exciting developments in e-mobility and autonomous driving from Germany. This participation is a highly interesting extension for one of the world’s largest mobility providers.
