Who invented it? One could ask the question about the origin of the latest trend in the mobility scene. I’m talking about automobile manufacturers who want to offer e-scooters as an addition for the last mile, either now or by announcement.

Well, the one who invented it, indicates an origin from the alpine country due to the advertisement for a Swiss lollipop. And indeed, years ago, the Swiss scooter experts from micro in Küsnacht near Zurich offered the French Peugeot Group an electric scooter for its Peugeot 3008 SUV.

The scooter was based on the emicro one electric scooter model from micro with some new extraordinary functions for that time. The e-Kick with up to 25km/h, a weight of only 8.5kg and the compact design made it “the perfect companion for the last mile in the city centre or the daily commuting route”. The aluminium body was designed by the prestigious Peugeot Design Lab. On the MyPeugeot App, the charging status could be seen and the speed could be read on the smartphone. As an official accessory, Peugeot Micro e-Kick was available for the then new Peugeot 3008 SUV at Peugeot dealerships and micro dealerships.

But the pioneer of today’s e-scooter generation for an OEM never really took off, the number of units sold was limited. Apparently the topic had been tackled too early a few years ago and the Peugeot Micro e-Kick is no longer even available in micro’s shop today.

A scooter in the trunk of the new Microlino

As is well known, the Swiss are also behind the new development of the Microlino city car. One of the representatives of the owner family recently explained to us in an interview that the first 500 Microlino vehicles delivered had one micro Scooter in each trunk. Whether it will be an electric scooter is not exactly known, but the combination of a small electric vehicle and a scooter for the last mile will also work in the Microlino.

The Daimler PMA E-Scooter wins an award at emove360

At the emove360 event in Munich last month, a Daimler innovation won the prize for ‘Electric Mobility and Autonomous Driving’. The so-called Personal Mobility Assistant is an e-scooter that fits perfectly in the rear of the eSmart. There it is charged inductively without contact and is available for driving the last mile in just a few simple steps using the folding function. With a smartphone, further digital services from Mercedes&Me can be used. When this e-scooter will actually be delivered is apparently not yet certain, but it is clear that the eSmarts are great for driving in urban centers. On the very last mile you can change to the PMA Scooter.

SEAT E-Scooter announced in Barcelona

The latest announcement for the integration of an E-scooter comes from SEAT.

SEAT announced its new eXS electric scooter on November 13 at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona. SEAT has apparently been working with Segway-Ninebot for some time on the development of the new eXS electric scooter.

The company initially plans to offer test drives to measure consumer feedback on the new e-scooter. The member of VW Group is thus taking advantage of the opportunity offered by the growing popularity of sharing programs for electric scooters to expand its product range.

SEAT’s electric scooters will be available from all brand dealers at a price of €599 from December 2018. They will be available before the end of the year in Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Portugal and in the rest of Europe in 2019. With smaller electric vehicles, the inner cities can be driven more efficiently; in Spanish weather, such a trip on the last mile seems feasible all year round.
