Choosing or combining the right means of transport for every journey and occasion – that means modern and urban mobility today. On longer distances by bus and train, for the way home from the station by bike or by rental car. In 2011, the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) and the Offenbacher Verkehrs-Betriebe (OVB) from the Stadtwerke group of companies with the support of the State of Hesse established a rental system of electric bicycles and cars in Offenbach to strengthen transport networks.
E-cars and pedelecs now available at six eMobile stations in the city area
Three new eMobile stations have been in operation in Offenbach since the end of April. This means that electrically powered pedelecs and electric cars can now be rented and returned to a total of six stations.
In the summer of 2017, the eMobile station on Offenbach’s market square was extended by two further locations in Bieber and at the port. With three new eMobile stations in Rumpenheim, An den Eichen and Tempelsee, the network of stations has now been completed.
In Offenbach, Germany’s first purely battery-powered bus has already been tested in regular service. In 2016, we then gave the green light for a gradual electrification of the bus fleet in the course of vehicle replacement.
Since the end of April, eMobil customers and those who still want to become eMobil customers have access to a total of six eMobil stations in the Offenbach city area. Registered users can now rent and return a total of 20 electrically powered pedelecs and six electric cars at all locations. The eMobile stations are located close to suburban train and bus stops, making it easy for users to switch from one mode of transport to another.
According to Peter Schneider, mayor and head of the mobility department in Offenbach, electric mobility is part of the “Green City Master Plan” currently in the detailed planning stage for the cities of Offenbach and Frankfurt and thus part of the measures designed to make the city centre cleaner and quieter. Peter Schneider: “With the expansion of the eMobil station network and the gradual introduction of electric buses in urban public transport from 2019, this forward-looking technology is an alternative for everyday use in Offenbach’s public transport system”. The Green City master plan is making excellent progress, especially in the Rhine-Main area.
“The future belongs to the combination of means of transport”, Prof. Knut Ringat, Managing Director of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund, is convinced. “With our bicycle and car fleet, we offer mobility beyond buses and trains in Offenbach. This allows you to leave your car at home more often, or even to do without it. Our thanks go to the state of Hesse, which supports the eMobil project. This enabled us to increase the number of rental stations and make it possible for vehicles to be delivered to one station and returned to another.”
